About AI Vector

AI Vector is a free image to SVG converter, AI vector generator and online SVG editor. What it does, how it works and when another tool fits better.

Last updated: 2026-10-01

AI Vector (aivector.app) is a free online image to SVG converter, AI vector generator and SVG editor: it traces PNG, JPG and WebP images into editable, multi-color SVG in the browser, generates logos, icons, stickers and illustrations from a text prompt, and lets you edit SVG files online.

People use it to turn a logo, icon, sketch or illustration they already have into a clean SVG, to create new vector artwork when they only have an idea, and to fix SVG files they already have. All three run on the web, with no software to install.

What you can do with AI Vector

Convert an image to SVG. Photo to Vector traces a PNG, JPG or WebP file into vector shapes. You choose how many colors to keep, how much fine detail to trace and how smooth the curves should be, then download the SVG or copy its code. Conversion is free, with no account and no watermark.

Generate vector art from text. Text to Vector turns a short description into an icon, logo concept, sticker, silhouette, line drawing or flat illustration, then traces it into SVG. It requires sign-in and is currently free, with a daily limit per account.

Edit SVG files online. Vector Editor Online opens an SVG in your browser so you can change colors, move path nodes, fix text, draw shapes or edit the SVG code, then save the file again. It is free, needs no account and keeps your file in the browser.

How it works

The converter uses VTracer, an open-source tracing engine, compiled to WebAssembly so it runs inside your browser. It looks at the image, suggests an artwork type (logo, illustration, photo poster or line art) and builds a first result in seconds. You then compare the original and the vector side by side and adjust the palette, detail and smoothness until the shapes look right.

Text to Vector sends your prompt to an AI image model with instructions for flat, vector-friendly artwork: clean shapes, a plain background and no lettering. The finished image is then traced in your browser with the same converter, so you can refine its colors before downloading. Generation usually takes 10 to 30 seconds.

Vector Editor Online is built on SVG-Edit, an open-source SVG editor. It runs entirely in the page: the files you open, edit and save stay in your browser.

When AI Vector is a good fit

  • You need a free SVG of a logo, icon or simple illustration and do not want to create an account.
  • You want to reduce artwork to a few colors, recolor it, or keep an exact brand color while tracing.
  • You are preparing a cut file for Cricut, Silhouette or another cutting machine. Use the Cutter export profile.
  • You want to turn a sketch or line drawing into clean vector lines.
  • You need a quick icon, sticker or logo concept and only have a description.
  • You want to fix an existing SVG, such as recoloring a logo, moving a few nodes or correcting text, without installing design software.

When another tool fits better

Being clear about limits saves you time:

  • You need PDF, EPS or DXF files. AI Vector saves SVG only, and the editor cannot open AI, EPS or PDF files. Paid tracers such as Vectorizer.AI export more formats.
  • The artwork is confidential. AI Vector keeps an encrypted backup of the images and results people work with. For files that must not leave your computer, use a desktop tool such as Inkscape.
  • You need a full design suite. Vector Editor Online handles quick fixes and simple drawings. For complex illustration, print layouts or advanced effects, use Illustrator, Inkscape or Figma.
  • You need accurate lettering. Traced text becomes shapes. Recreate the words with the right font in a vector editor.
  • The source is blurry or tiny. Tracing cannot restore detail that is not in the original. Start from the clearest file you have.

Facts at a glance

  • Image to SVG input: PNG, JPG or WebP, up to 10 MB. Add a file by upload, drag and drop or paste. Images larger than 4 megapixels are downscaled before tracing.
  • Tracing engine: VTracer compiled to WebAssembly, running in the browser. No install; works in modern desktop and mobile browsers.
  • Artwork types: Logo, Illustration, Photo poster and Line art. The tool detects a starting type automatically.
  • Controls: maximum colors (1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 24 or 32), fine detail (1–9), smoothness (1–9), Remove white for a connected white background, and a palette editor to recolor, lock, merge or remove colors.
  • Output: SVG. Download the file or copy the SVG code. Export profiles: Design (editable color groups), Web (smaller markup) and Cutter (fill outlines for Cricut and CAD).
  • Price: image conversion and SVG downloads are free, with no account and no watermark.
  • Text to Vector: an AI model generates a flat image from the prompt, then the image is traced into SVG. Six styles (icon, logo, sticker, silhouette, line art, illustration), three color modes (full color, 2 colors, black and white) and five aspect ratios (1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4). Generation usually takes 10–30 seconds.
  • Text to Vector access: sign-in required; currently free, with a daily generation limit per account. Signed-in users can find past generations under My Generations.
  • Vector Editor Online: a free SVG editor based on the open-source SVG-Edit project. Draw shapes, stars, polygons and freehand lines; edit paths and nodes; set fills, strokes, gradients and opacity; add editable text; use layers, groups, alignment, grid and connectors; edit the SVG source code. Opens and saves SVG; PNG or JPG can be imported as embedded images. No sign-up, no watermark, best on a desktop or laptop.
  • Vector Editor Online limits: saves SVG only (no PNG, JPG or PDF export), cannot open AI, EPS or PDF files directly, does not trace images into vectors, and has no auto-save.
  • Privacy: image tracing runs in the browser, and the service keeps an encrypted backup of the images people add to the converter and the SVG results they create. Vector Editor Online works on files inside the browser and does not upload them.
  • Languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, Dutch, Polish, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

Your images

Vector Editor Online does not upload your files: opening, editing and saving an SVG happens in your browser, and nothing is auto-saved, so download your work before closing the tab.

For the converter, tracing happens in your browser. When you add an image, the service also stores an encrypted backup of it and of the SVG results you create, which helps us troubleshoot conversions and improve the tool. Prompts for Text to Vector are sent to our AI provider. The privacy policy explains what is stored, who can access it and how to request deletion.
